We had a very successful Studio Spring Recital at Northwest Music Hall on May 14th, 2016. It was a delight to hear all of the performances and celebrate all the accomplishments of the year!
Two students (Raj and Aarti) performed duets in the Edmonds chapter's Ensemble-Concerto Festival on May 21, 2016 at Lighthammer Piano. We had a Piano Pizza Party in June 2016 to celebrate the end of the year with pizza, music, and games! In the Fall of 2016, we continued our annual studio tradition of Halloween Performance parties in October. Students got to dress up, perform, play music games, and enjoy treats together. Our Winter Recital was held in December at the studio for parents and family members to come and hear piano performances and socialize with treats and music games. In February 2017, three students (Ethan, Nicole, and Adam) worked hard to memorize and perform an adjudication piece in the Young Artist Recital at Northwest Music Hall. Melynn participated in her first voice adjudications this February as well. On March 4, 2017, eleven students (Jake, Emme, Emily, Will, Ethan, Adam, Rebecca, Jack, Bailey, Bryn, and Melynn) performed two contrasting pieces from memory in Piano Adjudications at Lighthammer Piano with Dr. Jody Graves. Each student received written and oral feedback and encouragement at this event. Two students (Bailey and Melynn) were chosen to represent the studio in the Honors Recital at Crista in Edmonds. Congratulations to all who participated. In April, we held our last performance party of the year on Earth Day. We had crafts, games, treats, and of course the students performed some fun pieces for one another on the piano. We took this time to practice giving and receiving written and oral feedback similar to adjudications. Everyone was very supportive and respectful of the music that was shared by their fellow musicians. We also listened to music inspired by nature and springtime from various periods and talked about similarities and differences we noticed. At the end of April 2017, three students (Melynn, Raj, and Aarti) performed duets and received helpful feedback in the Ensemble/Concerto Festival held in Edmonds. On May 20th, 2017 seven students (Adam, Nicole, Rebecca, Ava, Melynn, Raj, and Aarti) participated in the Edmonds Musicianship Festival. A few of the students entered compositions and others took exams and performed music from contrasting periods from memory. All challenged themselves in developing and strengthening their musicianship skills in preparation for this event and received ribbons for their hard work. The theme of the festival this year was "All Around the World" and we had a very exciting lunch hour program full of performances of folk dancers and singers from traditions all over the world. Fun activity tables, face painting, and a display of music projects (one of which was created by Nicole!) all made this a day to remember. On June 18th, 2017 we held our End of Year Recital at Roy's Place Studio in Lynnwood. This was a wonderful celebration of all that was accomplished throughout the year and a chance for students to share some amazing and beautiful piano music with their families. After the performances students received certificates and enjoyed refreshments together.

- Our Studio End of Year Recital on June 13 was a huge success! We had a full house- I am so happy all of you were able to come participate and that each student had family and friends there to support them. We celebrated the many accomplishments of our students this year with performances, presentation of certificates, and snacks/socializing afterward.
- Spring Performance Party- Students enjoyed music games, treats, and performances! This was a great opportunity to gain valuable performance experience and learn to support one another with proper recital etiquette and encouraging/helpful comments. - WSMTA adjudications went very well this year! Congratulations to Aarti, Bryn, Emily M, and Raj! You all worked hard and played beautifully. On Feb 28, each student performed two contrasting pieces from memory for Dr. William Nyaho at Lighthammer Pianos in Mukilteo. Raj also represented the studio in the Edmonds Honor Recital on March 7. - Our Christmas Recital on December 20th brought holiday cheer to the residents of Brookdale Senior Living. The room was completely full during the recital and so many afterward let me know how very much they appreciated us coming and that they enjoyed the recital so much! Thank you to all of the students and families who were able to be there! -The Halloween Performance Parties on Oct 24 and Oct 25 were lots of fun! We played rhythm pictionary, hangman on the staff, statues, monster hide-and-seek, and my favorite: musical charades on the piano. There were yummy treats and some spooky performances! We also voted on the charity that the studio will be raising money toward in this year's practice challenge. -This year's practice challenge raised $110 for Neonatal Resuscitation Training. For more information on this much needed approach to saving newborn babies: Helping Babies Breathe Students participated by logging practice days and voting for the charity that would receive the practice challenge donation. For each day a student practiced, the studio donated a dime to the charity chosen by the students. Together the whole studio was able to log over 1000 practice days! -We had 4 students who participated in the Classical Time Era Festival on November 1 at Lighthammer Pianos. You all worked so hard and did a wonderful job playing in the classical style, from memory, and working with the judge afterward. What a great performance experience and hopefully you learned a lot about the classical time period! CONGRATULATIONS! Luke Green, Rachel Green, Sam Green, Bryn Hawksworth |
